About the Author
Jeff Ishee is Farm Director for WSVA radio in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The station was ranked # 1 in the nation in July, 2000 by Arbitron in the "News/Talk" format. Ishee produces and broadcasts more than 1500 "Agribusiness" segments each year for listeners in Virginia and West Virginia.

Ishee also served as VP of the Virginia Farmers Direct Marketing Association and is actively involved in farmers' marketing. He manages two retail farmers' markets in Staunton and Verona, VA and has consulted with numerous organizations on issues relating to public farmers' markets. He also serves on the Environmental Awards Selection Committees of Tyson Foods, Inc. and the VA Poultry Federation.

He is a columnist for the Daily News Leader in Staunton, where he writes a regular column on vegetable gardening. In 1997, Ishee wrote and published his first book entitled "Dynamic Farmers' Marketing: A Guide to Successfully Selling Your Farmers' Market Products."

Ishee received the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation's Agricultural Journalism Award for Broadcasting in 1999 and 2000, as well as an Honorary Degree from the Virginia Future Farmers of America in 2000.

He developed and manages two farm-related web sites.

Keeping it Simple

Are you looking to direct market your farm products? Then this is a 'must have' in your library. Jeff Ishee takes you through the day-to-day of planning and preparing to market any and all farm products directly to the consumer. This book is a great guide in getting your ideas together on what to do in your operation or if you are just simply trying to decide if direct marketing is for you.
In working with the industry on a day-to-day basis in Kentucky, this book has been an excellent addition to my resource library.

A Timeless Guide To Farm Enterprise At The Market

Having enjoyed Jeff Ishee's "Virginia Farm Monitor" program via RFD-TV weekly for a while, I was happy to discover his book. It was pricey since it is "out of print" and thus a "collector's" but worth every penny of the price I paid. Common sense and insider tips abound, and if you've ever considered selling your produce or products at a Farmer's Market or even organizing one in your community, this is the "bible" of such enterprise and something you'll need to succeed. The author tells the story in personal terms based on his own experience but also includes a section of responses he got when the book was in "beta" and he put it online for comments by other farmer's market sellers and growers. Therefore, while it is based on his VA experiences, it really applies to all such markets everywhere.

Victor Svorinich (D.Litt, Drew), Whippany, New Jersey, is a music faculty member at Kean University in Union, New Jersey, and owner of The Guitar Academy. His published work includes Electric Miles: A Look at the “In a Silent Way” and “On the Corner” Sessions.

conjure 3D Miles up from our memories

Listen to This is the third book of the making of the Miles Davis masterpiece, following to Ashley Kahn’s Kind Of Blue (2000, Da Capo Press) and Yasuki Nakayama’s the Truth Of Agharta And Pangaea (2011, Kawade, Japan.) While latter two books focusing on the moment of creation and the inside stories, Victor Svorinich tries to conjure 3D Miles up from our memories. His analysis of climate, preparation, music and post production depicts how only Miles really knew what he was looking for and endeavored in recreating the music in his head. He says Miles served as the conceptualist for Bitches Brew, and placed an emphasis in expanding upon small clumps and creating new composition out of them. In this sense, he seems to stand by Miles’ side against Zawinul’s claim as an original composer. Uniqueness of this book is containing verbal evidences from photographers. They are favorable to Miles as they successfully captured Miles. Svorinich writes Miles’ incredible will to achieve at any cost makes the prince of darkness a charismatic, timeless figure. From an every sound of his trumpet, we can feel a layer of warmth, beauty, and romanticism. Whatever the method, Svorinich stresses, it had to come out from underneath the shyness, the darkness, and the tough skin which life gave Miles.

Would like to point out one misunderstanding by Svorinich. Agharta is recorded in Osaka. (not Tokyo show, p152) Agharta is a record of matinee (start 4:00pm local time), while Pangaea is the second performance of the same day (start 7:00pm local time). Sony got Columbia’s approval of live recording for the limited Japan sales only, assigned Japanese engineer for this project. Getting a good reputation from Japan, Columbia decided sales of Agharta in America. However, facing severe comment from critics, they abandoned producing Pangaea in America. There was a controversy between Japanese and American engineers about the cutting level for this product as in p110. These two records still have some popularity in the Japanese market. Notwithstanding his physical condition at that time, Miles sparkles here and there.

I used to not listen to Miles post 60s. I am more into straight ahead jazz. This book has broadened my horizons. I hadn't realized the influence of the Bitches Brew album until reading the book. And because of Svorinich, It's all I've been listening to for weeks. Well done.

About the Author
Sylvia S. Mader has authored several nationally recognized biology texts published by McGraw Hill. Educated at Bryn Mawr College, Harvard University, Tufts University, and Nova Southeastern University, she holds degrees in both Biology and Education. Although her writing schedule is always quite demanding, Dr. Mader enjoys taking time to visit and explore the various ecosystems of the biosphere. Her several trips to the Florida Everglades and Caribbean coral reefs resulted in talks she has given to various groups around the country. She has visited the tundra in Alaska, the taiga in the Canadian Rockies, the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, and tropical rain forests in South America and Australia. A photo safari to the Serengeti in Kenya resulted in a number of photographs for her texts. She was thrilled to think of walking in Darwin’s steps when she journeyed to the Gal�pagos Islands with a group of biology educators. Dr. Mader was also a member of a group of biology educators who traveled to China to meet with their Chinese counterparts and exchange ideas about the teaching of modern-day biology.

Good and depressing

I really liked the characters after i got to know them and the story flowed well. The writing was great and captivating and made me really care what happened to the two fate bound lovers, that, however, was also the downside. I was depressed for most of the book. Fated to turn evil and torture the person she loves most in the world and they both know. It seemed for a bit that they could find a way to fight against it but that was like a glass of water while trapped in a burning skyscraper, A small comfort meant to make the pain that much more intense when you realize that they haven't won, in any way shape or form. everytime you think this is it they will find a way to break free it gets brutally beaten down. I like the story i really did, but I felt horrible by the end of it and knowing that the next book is going to be about breaking into hell only to find the one you came to save is now at the left hand of the devil. Well it makes me not look forward to the next one.
