Don't waste your money!

We bought this to help a child with an Autism Spectrum Disorder recognize facial expressions. These illustrations are just awful. Occasionally a picture will definitively illustrate the emotion it's supposed to, but most of them are difficult to recognize even for my spouse and I. The exercizes are decent ("I feel ----- when xyz happens"), and allow a child to decide how they might feel in a particular situation and illustrate the statements with the pictures (via velcro attachment on back of pictures). There are also a couple of pages that you can write in your own scenarios. For a reader, this would be fine and the exercizes would work without pictures. Obviously the visual recognition of facial expressions and physical demeanor are the whole point of this book however. I feel it fails miserably, because the pictures are so bad.

Very strange pictures

I bought this book as it was recommended to use with a great social thinking curriculum I was using with students. It is made very well with sturdy pieces. I really like the way the pieces Velcro on to each page. Unfortunately the faces are just strange. The majority of my students (first to third grade) complained about the drawings. Even though the idea of the book is great and it can be used for some good discussion, it made it difficult when students were uncomfortable looking at the pictures.
